Calgary Bulldogs vs Sherwood Park Rams

November 20 was a beautiful sunny day at Clarke Park in Edmonton where two deserving teams met to face each other in the Provincial tier I championship game. In the end, the offense of the Rams was able to keep the Bulldogs off balance for most of the game and come away with a hard fought 42-13 victory before over 600 cheering fans. The game featured the finesse running of Chris Tran who was the work horse for the Rams. The Rams offensive stats told the story as they were able to amass 24 first downs and had 465 yards of offence. Tran was the rushing leader with 212 yards rushing with 18 carries.

Jordan Adamson scored 2 rushing touchdowns with Ryan Proud (interception for touchdown), Doug Rypstra, Greg Frost and Garrett Elsey(pass) scoring as well. The Rams ended the season undefeated for the second straight year. For more details of the game, please visit our "News Articles".

May 15, 2004 Are you Xtreme Enough?

These fine young football players pictured below found this out over two weekends which culminated in the announcement of the team today. Please see the roster which is posted below.

Only in Alberta! Last weekend the weather was cold and bleak and today the weather was more than acceptable- it was perfect football weather. While the sun shone down on 68 players in a camp of high expectations, the players did not disappoint. Players on both sides of the ball continued to work hard and impress the coaches with all 68 players getting reps in the two-a-days. Tomorrow is cut down day so players will be in great form and working hard to make the team."Players have taken this camp as a challenge to get better and improve- and improve they have!" said Coach Gerald Foster, head coach of the Leduc Ticats and Dline coach of the Extreme. "This may be a 'last man standing' type of camp. All the coaches have been impressed." Tomorrow will indeed be interesting. All fans are encouraged to come out and watch their favorites participate in the two- a-days which start at 10AM and 1:30 PM.

The day started as a cold one with snow on the ground and -3C temperatures but heated up as the players took to the field in their best efforts to make this powerful squad. Today saw a full scrimmage with players on both sides of the ball impressing the coaches. "I want to say that this group of linebackers is the deepest group I have seen in 4 Summer Games teams" said Coach Brian Yakimchuk, Head Coach of the Parkland Predators."These kids are all in the hunt and it is still too close to call who will be our starters." The receiving corps, while smaller in numbers, is seeing an equally intense competition for starting positions. Coach Mark Dobko of the St. Albert 49ers was impressed. " We have speed, hands and tough blockers all chomping at the bit to make this team" he said."Next weekend will be intense- no question" said the coach who also is a football coach at Eastglen High School. Players- please remember that next weekend's football camp will be at Elmer Gish School in St. Albert. See you on Saturday! Remember to dress to suit the weather.

May 8, 2004

May 8th was a great day in Leduc when 78 eager football players arrived at Black Gold field in Leduc. "The players worked very hard today to get noticed"said Coach Jay Meraw, offensive coordinator of the Extreme team. "Based on the players we saw today on the defensive side, there were no slouches"expressed defensive coordinator Vic Chmelyk. The task of picking players will be a tough one but the coaches have lots of help. Several coaches from other teams including the Spruce Grove Cougars, Stony Plain Bombers, St. Albert 49ers, St. Albert Fury, Leduc Ticats and Sherwood Park Rams were helping out the Zone 5 coaching staff to help select the team. Practices go tomorrow at 10 AM in Leduc and the competition promises to be tough.

March 30, 2004

Welcome to the web site link of the Alberta Summer Games Zone 5 team. As you know, this site is the home of the Sherwood Park Rams. However, Zone 5 is also the home of some pretty good football players who live in all areas surrounding the City of Edmonton, excluding Edmonton. Our friends from Edmonton are in Zone 6. The nickname of the Zone 5 team is "The Extreme Team" and this year's mottos during tryout camp will be "Are You EXTREME Enough?" Tryouts this year will be held in two cities. The tryouts will be on the weekend of May 8 and 9 in Leduc and May 15 and 16 in St. Albert. You must be registered by the commencement of camp and must have a medical certificate entitling you to participate. Camps will commence each day at 10 AM and be over by 4PM. On the first day, May 8, please arrive at least 1 hour early. This will allow the trainers to check your equipment. All equipment must be safe. It is the players' responsibility to get their own equipment for the four days of camp. The fees of $45 will include four lunches, 20 hours of instruction and a commemorative t-shirt. You may register by calling the Zone 5 manager, Suzanne Stevens at 416-5539 and she will be happy to share all the necessary information with you.If you make the team, an additional fee of $100 will be payable at that time.
